Your essay should be between 800 and 1000 words and must use quotes from the novel to support your ideas: at least one quote per body paragraph.
The essay must be submitted in hard copy, so be sure it is printed before you come to class on the due date.
1. Discuss Nick Carraway’s character. How reliable is he as a narrator?
2. Is Gatsby “great?” Has he been corrupted by society? Or is his choice an indication that he is part of the corruption?
3. Argue that Gatsby is a tragedy. Explain why.
4. Choose a symbol, image or motif present throughout the novel. Trace it then analyze and explain its significance.
